I have a Streamway older model mobile home tub faucet . The seat on the hot side has broken off,so when I remove it, it somehow cross threaded the valve body slightly. The size is 1/2″ diameter ,with 24 thread count (1/2 #24) I cannot find a tap in that threadcount size at any Lowes,or Ace hardware.
I hear I can also re-tap it using a 9/16 24 tap, but I have to find one!
Should I re-tap it,run a bolt through it,replace it, etc…?
Any tricks of the trade??
Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated!

whirlpool tub question?

24th February 2010

dublinmurray asked:

hello, i have a whirlpool tub that was put in in 1997(so about 12 years old)
the tub looks as if it is brand new and is beautiful, but the motor is not working on the jets. i don’t like to use the jets, i just like the large size of the tub and soaking in hot water. my question is, is it o-k to just use the tub as a “regular tub” and not get a new motor?? of course, i know i will not be able to make the jets work without the motor, but other than that will it be ok?? please advise, thanks.

A friend has a restaurant and has a huge 3 tub sink. It has a small pea size hole and leaks…but the whole sink is already built into the counter…and really doesn’t want to pull out sink and replace…so he asked me if it was possible to repair or weld…and I’m not really sure….If anybody has any ideas…on a repair kit…plz help….It always has hot water and the repair kit would need to b water proof….Well thanks and hope to hear from someone soon thanks. =)

My utility company offers a water heater program, and they recommended a 120-gallon water heater for my family. The thing is huge, like the size of a small refrigerator.

Is this size too big for us? We have two young children, and might have more. We are getting a large soaking tub (6 feet). It holds 72 gallons of water max., but we’ll never completely fill it since we need to save room for us to get in.

I don’t want to run out of hot water, but don’t need a huge energy bill either.
We’re getting a standard storage water heater and not a tankless, so it does heat the water even if we’re not drawing it off. It keeps heating it to temperature and reheats if we don’t draw it off.

Cost to fix an inground pool?

We are considering buying a house with an in ground pool. I am wondering what it might cost to fix. Maybe what someone has recently paid for the following types of repairs. Here is what I know.
Approximate size 14×30x7 .
The pool was drained 5-months ago.
The pump doesn’t work.
Heater doesn’t work.
Plaster has several cracks.
No hot tub.

Thanks.

Hi–I have a few questions:

Here’s a pic of my Delta tub faucet:

I opened up my tub faucet because it was leaking, and found a strange white substance lodged in the rubber seat of the cold water line. I’ve included a pen in the picture to help display its size:
http://i42.tinypic.com/35bikx0.jpg

It seems to feel like plastic. When I fold it in half, it’s not brittle enough to actually snap. (It just folds–similar to how I would expect plastic to fold.) However, if I rub it, there is definitely white dust.

Is this the result of normal build-up? If not, any idea what in the world this thing could be?

Here are some close-ups:

After repacing both rubber seats and springs, the good news is that it no longer leaks. However, I now notice that the handle seems looser than before: If I lift the handle to its maximum opening for the HOT setting, gravity pulls the handle back down until it’s ~80% open. (If I lift the handle to its maximum opening for the COLD setting, the handle has barely enough resistance to keep it 100% open.) Any idea how to firm up the handle? Or, will it natually build up resistance over time?

FYI, the white material was lodged into the left hole of the second pic. I confirmed that the left hole is the cold line.

Lastly, I went ahead and replaced the ball. Result: No more floppy handle!

bob asked:

I suspect that after water heater replacement by contractor, that something may have blocked the line somewhere. When the contractor told me to turn on the hot water, this is the valve that I turned on first. I did not relate this problem at first to the water heater replacement. This is a delta single lever valve. I took it apart and there was some white particles on the ball part of the valve. I cleaned it off and turned the water on with the valve removed to try to flush it out, but it didn’t help much. How can I clear out the line? with the valve out and the water flowing free, you can see the difference between the hot and cold. the cold side has high pressure, but the hot is definantly lower flow, so I don’t think the valve is the cause! No help from the contractor!
Thanks to all for helping
Yes, the hot at the 1 tub is the only one restricted , all other tubs and sinks are fine. I tried to push a wire back into the pipe in hope of clearing the obstruction, but it didn’t help!
It is similar to this model, but I think the valve is ok! I am I wrong about this?

How can one get there hair clean w/o washing it over the sink every morning with distilled water? My super watershowerhead filter is not doing anything. The water leaves a grease slick on my hair and it is falling out as I can’t even brush it. My landlord refuses to believe the water is any different then anyone else’s. I think the hot water heater needs flushed, it has been vacant here for 3 months and crap comes out of the tub spout when only the hot water is running at first too.

Gary B asked:

I am about to give up on this stupid thing. We don’t use it that much, perhaps once or twice a week at the heaviest times, though we go weeks without using it at all. (I usually continue to shock the water every week or so anyway and keep the bromine floater in.) Every time we fill it, after a few times people are in the water, it gets oily scum on top. Since it’s the summer we don’t heat it up much, raising perhaps to 90 degrees at the most, and in the day time using it at around 80. See picture of scum here:

http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz146/gbisaga/scumscumscum.jpg

I have tried everything. The water chemistry is correct. I bought a new filter awhile back and just recently cleaned it by soaking it overnight in the filter cleaner they have at the pool store and then rinsing with plenty of water. I bought one of those “scumballs.” Nonetheless, the scum remains. I bought a panty-hose-like fabric that goes over the leaf skimmer, that seems to lift the scummy areas off the top of the water. Unfortunately, next time I turn on the water circulation, it comes back.

This all makes me wonder if there’s something in the circulation system that is causing this. We don’t take showers every time before we go in, but we often do. The bathers have not typically used suntan or other lotions recently. Any ideas?

Hot tub temperature issue?

15th October 2009

Charles R asked:

we’ve had it for about 5yrs with no trouble. the heating element just died and i replaced it with no problem. the issue now is when it heats up. it gets up to temp, no matter the setting and stops circulating like it should. BUT… the HEATER STAYS ON. it sits idle, NO CIRCULATION until the overheat limiter is tripped, then the heat turns off, but the heater will not engage again unless the power is reset. once reset, the cycle then begins again, heat-up, over-heat, etc. the filters are clean, there’s no evident pressure problem. the make is a “Gulf Coast model #7000/Cape Haze.” Thanks!
I didn’t disconnect any wiring on the circuit board. I only changed the heat element.
